The Fletchers' newest Service affiliation is with one of the Royal Navy's new Type 45 destroyers - HMS Defender. The Master and the Clerk went up to Clydeside for her launch on 21 October 2009 (Trafalgar Day).

Defender's Senior Naval Office Nicholas Boyd and her Weapons Engineering Officer Peter Walton were entertained to lunch by the Company on 9 December. Commander Boyd's letter of thanks and photos of the current state of build of the ship are here.
