CORAM is the name of the sea captain who started the charity to give children in London a better start in life in 1739. CORAM is a very worthwhile charity.7 October The Master and his wife, accompanied by the Wardens and their wives, Choral Evensong at St Pauls’ Cathedral attended the Worshipful Company of Musicians. The ship’s Sponsor, Lady Massey, launched the ship and Mr Alan Johnston CBE, the Chief Executive of BVT, hosted the event, which included lunch in the paddle steamer Waverly and a dinner in the Kelvingrove museum. Defender will be the sixth ship to bear the name and it is hoped the launch marks the beginning of a long and fruitful affiliation between the Company and the Ship and her Ship’s Company. 22 October The Master attended a reception in aid of the National Arboretum at the RAF Club in Piccadilly. The event highlighted the need for £8,000,000 to upgrade the facilities at the Arboretum to cater for the increase in visitor numbers form 70,000 in 2007 to 400,000 in 2008. 28 October The Master and his wife attended the Installation Dinner, held at the Hall, of Assistant Andrew MacMillan as Master of the Guild of Mercers’ Scholars. 30 October The Master joined other masters for the monthly curry lunch held by the Master Mariners in their hall, HQS WELLINGTON, moored at Victoria Embankment. |
