| 2 November The Master attended the Royal British Legion Remembrance Service at St Paul’s Cathedral and placed a cross and poppy in the Garden of Remembrance on behalf of the Company.
Later in the evening, he attended a lecture held by the Guild of Art Scholars, Dealers and Collectors at Mansion House on the “Cheapside Hoard”. 4 November The Master attended the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs’ Committee meeting at Guildhall, before joining the other committee members for lunch in the Aldermen’s Dining Room. Later that evening he attended a meeting between the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs’ Committee and the Land Committee to seek agreement to holding the Lord Mayor’s Banquet at Guildhall. After some debate, agreement was reached. After the meeting, he attended the Lighting-Up Dinner held in the Crypt of the Guildhall to test the arrangements, such as the State Trumpeters, the lighting levels and sound systems and menu for the Lord Mayor’s Banquet. 13 November The Master attended Lunch at Mansion House before going to Guildhall for the Silent Ceremony, at which he and the remainder of the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs’ Committee. Form a procession into the Hall, witness the installation of the new Lord Mayor Alderman Nick Anstee and then greet both the new Lord Mayor and the late Lord Mayor. Afterwards he attended the Thanksgiving Service of the new Lord Mayor at Saint Lawrence Jewry Church next to Guildhall. 14 November The Master and his wife Anne, together with the Fletcher delegation of the Wardens and Honorary Almoner, attended the Presentation of Addresses to the Lord Mayor and the 2 Sheriffs in Guildhall. During the Ceremony, the Deputation presented the Fletcher Gifts to Alderman and Sheriff David Wootton of a Calling Book and Photograph Album. Afterwards they all had had a buffet breakfast in the Old Library. After the Presentation of Addresses the Master accompanied by the Renter Warden, Honorary Almoner and Clerk boarded a landau pulled by 2 black geldings to join the Lord Mayor’s procession to the Royal Courts of Justice. They then witness in the Court of Appeal the swearing in of the new Lord Mayor by the Lord Chief Justice and the valedictory by the Master of The Rolls to the late Lord Mayor. After the ceremony, they boarded the landau once more and travelled back to Mansion House where the Master took his place in the Guard of Honour for the Lord Mayor outside Mansion House. Afterwards the members of the Deputation were joined by their wives and attended lunch at Mansion House. 16 November The Master and his wife Anne attended Guildhall for the Lord Mayor’s Banquet. The Master as part of his final duties as a member of The Lord Mayor and Sheriffs’ Committee assisted at the reception and escorted the late Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to meet the new Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress. At the Banquet, the Master and his wife sat with the other members of the Committee and had a splendid evening together, where a plot was hatched to hold a “Winding Down” luncheon later in the New Year. 19 November The Master attended the Lord Mayor’s briefing to Clerks and Masters at Mansion House. 23 November The Master attended the Livery Dinner hosted by Alderman Sir David Lewis, Master of the Worshipful Company of Solicitors of the City of London, at Drapers’ Hall. 30 November The Master and Mistress Fletcher attended the first evening of the Red Cross Christmas Market at Guildhall. The event was well attended by Fletchers many of whom were instrumental in assisting Gloria Neal with the highly successful ladies clothing stall which raised some £5000 for the Red Cross. |
