Born 27th February 1916 at Ealing, Middlesex, he married Vera (neé Douglass) at Christ Church, Ealing, 9th September 1939. Professionally, he set up his own practice and from the early 1950s until his retirement, became involved as the Licensing Planning Consultant to the Brewers Company, a truly unique position, which set the scene with his involvement with the Livery. He joined the livery of the Fletchers in 1965, and became master 20 years later in 1986.
